Allison Ziogas Announces Suspension of Congressional Race for Health Reasons

Staten Island, NY— Allison Ziogas announced the suspension of her race for Congressional Representative for NY-11, the U.S. House of Representatives. After careful consultation with her medical team and family, Ziogas has made the difficult decision to suspend her campaign for health reasons.

Statement from Allison Ziogas:

“Running for Congress has been one of the greatest honors of my life. When my friends in the labor movement asked me to run, I was humbled by the ask and eager to help take my experience from the job site and the negotiating table to Washington DC. To the volunteers, donors, and neighbors who opened their doors to me: your passion for our community is what drives this movement. I am truly disappointed that I am unable to run the campaign I hoped to for the people of the district at this time.”

Next Steps for the Campaign

The Ziogas campaign is suspended effective immediately and indefinitely. Guidance regarding the campaign’s status will be provided via the official campaign website in the coming days.

Allison Ziogas and her family kindly request privacy during this time.

About Allison Ziogas

Allison Ziogas is a first-generation IBEW electrician, seasoned labor organizer, and labor relations professional.

A resident of Pleasant Plains, Staten Island, Allison has spent over 20 years at the intersection of the labor movement, the energy industry, and building the infrastructure that makes New York City what it is — schools, stations, and skyscrapers.

Allison’s career began as an apprentice with IBEW Local 3, entering the trade through the support of Nontraditional Employment for Women (NEW). She spent over 15 years "on the tools," including as a foreman, overseeing major infrastructure projects that define New York City’s skyline.

Her campaign for Congress was built on a foundation of fighting for working people’s rights and rebuilding protections for the people who keep the lights on, seeking to bridge the gap between policymakers in DC and the everyday lives of working families.
